ST. GEORGE, Utah (AP) -- The list of top ten cities in the
Intermountain West that consume the most water has been released --
and four Utah cities are on it.
The new report was issued by the University of Utah's Bureau of
Economic and Business Research. It shows St. George at the top of
the list, consuming more water, per capita, per day than any other
city in the Intermountain West.
St. George who comes in at number one gulps down 391 gallons a
day. Logan comes in at second with 370 gallons. The number four
spot goes to Salt Lake City with 370 gallons, while Provo-Orem
takes sixth place with 281 gallons.
Study author Alan Isaacson said it's clear Utah needs to do
better and it can be done without making a lot of drastic changes.
But Eric Klotz with the Division of Water Resources conservation
said statewide per capita consumption is down 17 percent since
1995. However, except for Ogden, Utah cities still consume
significantly more water than most of their Intermountain West
neighbors.
------
Other water consumption cities in the region:
- Albuquerque's per capita water use is 178 daily gallons.
- Boise's is 192 daily gallons.
- Denver's is 207 gallons
- The region's average per capita use is 243 galloons per day.
